Best fish and chips on the east coast. I’ve been to fish and chips locations on 5 continents and dons is by far the best I’ve had in Canada. Friendly staff, delicious fish, and that just right mix of greasy and fresh. If you’re in the area it’s worth a stop.
Great.... Just like everyone says. They give you everything wrapped in a paper bag so be quick about where you plan to sit and eat as they have no tables. We quickly biked over to the park with our illegal can of bear purchased a block away.
Great takeout fish and chips made fresh with less oil and crispy batter! Prices are reasonable and the service was friendly and accommodating. Menu is simple and they focus on what they are good at. Wish they had some sit down space to enjoy the food. Will be back again when I’m in the area!
Update June 23 2025 We went back on Sunday June 22 2025 The food was great and service on point. They only took a few minutes to prepare our large order and it came with a special attention. Our regular spot by the water was unavailable due to a festival, the cashier recommended a park nearby and told us where to park for free, it was just perfect. We will be back later this year and next summer for sure, the tradition lives! ORIGINAL Review Once or twice year, I drive with my family from Gatineau to Don's. We order the food and take it to a nearby park next to the water. The fish and chips are usually excellent, full of fish and crispy. Our experience last Sunday was deceiving. After spending 280 for eight two pieces combo and 4 single pieces, we found thee recipe must have changes, the pieces were soft and the fish portion very small inside. The fries were dry and not as good as before. We will probably try again next year as this is a tradition my dad started over 15 years ago and since he passed away I took over, but I really hope it will be back to the old standard of fish and chips we used to love.
It was our first time in Brockville and we thought to try "Don's fish & Chips".. We really enjoyed it so much. We placed the same order for us and our kids, but the owner highlighted that the portions are big especially for the fries and he also showed us the size of fish pieces. It was nice gesture from them, so we adjusted our order accordingly... Fish tastes so yummy. We really liked its spices too. I see a lot of freshly cut fries comes with one order. They are too much for one person to finish :) But I have a comment on the fries. It was so bland. I think salt is needed to be added on top it just after frying it to be more tasty ;) Tartar sauce is so nice and added a lot to the fish. I really liked the way of receiving the order and you have to wait outside and they will call your name and hand you the order from the window.. Quick tip for parking, there is a limited parking spaces. But on the other side, there is municipal parking that is free after 4PM and free on weekends
Always some of the best fish n chips. They don’t over attack the fish with batter. The fries are super tasty. Don’t expect to run a marathon after one of these meals, but do expect to sit back and reflect on how good the meal was. Only recommendation... they should make their own tartar sauce instead of using those packets.
Great Fish & Chips! I had a piece of Haddock & a piece of Cod with my Chips. They were cheap, juicy, & totally delicious! Will be returning again for feiendly service and great food!
